The voice sounds exactly like yours, right down to the unique inflection, but you never made that call. In 2026, AI-driven deepfakes have turned traditional defense on its head, making robust cybersecurity awareness training for employees the most critical investment in your company’s survival. Your team is no longer just a group of users; they are the primary targets of highly sophisticated, personalized deception.

HIPAA Compliant IT Services in Anchorage: Protecting Your Practice in 2026

Would your current IT provider be ready to stand beside you if an OCR auditor walked through your Anchorage clinic doors tomorrow morning? It’s a troubling thought, but it’s the core reality of the reactive support model. Many Alaska business owners feel stuck in a cycle of “emergency” calls and unpredictable invoices. You want to focus on your operations; instead, you’re waiting for a call back while your team sits idle and downtime costs climb as high as $427 per minute. It often feels like your IT support is always a step behind the latest cyber threat or HIPAA audit requirement.

Best Managed IT Services Anchorage: 2026 Business Guide

What if the biggest threat to your Anchorage business isn’t a hacker halfway across the world, but a support ticket sitting in a remote vendor’s queue for six hours?
Do you know which AI tools your team is using at work… and what they’re putting into them?

Most business owners I speak to think they do. And then we dig a little deeper.

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini have slipped into everyday work incredibly fast. They’re great for productivity. Drafting emails. Summarizing documents. Brainstorming ideas. Solving problems faster.

The trouble is, they’ve arrived so quickly that governance hasn’t kept up.

Quick Tip: Share Just the Article — Without the Noise

Sharing an article but don’t want to send all the noise with it?
Not a password they’re using today.

Not one they even remember.

Just an old one that never got changed.

Because that’s exactly how a recent, large-scale data-theft campaign worked.

A recent investigation by a cybersecurity firm uncovered a new hacking campaign. Sensitive business data from dozens of organizations around the world was quietly collected and later put up for sale on the dark web.

Outlook will flag your most important emails

How much time do you waste sorting through emails every day, trying to figure out what really needs your attention?

If you’re like most business owners, the answer is probably “too much”.

Between customer queries, supplier updates, internal messages, and the occasional bit of junk, your inbox can feel overwhelming.

And if you or your team miss something important because it got buried, that can cause delays, confusion, or worse.

Half of staff have too much access to data

Here’s a question to make you pause: Do you know exactly who in your business can access your critical data right now?

And more importantly, do they need that access to do their job?

If you’re like most business owners, you probably assume that access is sorted out during setup and that’s the end of it. But new research says otherwise.

It turns out that around half of staff in businesses have access to far more data than they should.

Passkeys will be better integrated in Windows

When was the last time you thought about how you log in to your accounts?

Or how secure those logins really are?

For years, we’ve relied on passwords. But let’s be honest, passwords are a pain. They’re easy to forget, often reused, and a prime target for cybercriminals.

That’s where passkeys come in. And, at last, Windows is making it much easier to use them.

So… what is a passkey?

Microsoft plans a naming system for hackers

Ever tried to follow a show where the main villain had four different names?

Impossible, right?

But that’s exactly what it’s like in the world of cybersecurity right now.

One hacking group can be tracked under completely different names, depending on who’s writing about them. Whether it’s Microsoft, Google, CrowdStrike, or another security firm.

It’s confusing. And worse, it can slow down how quickly us experts, and the businesses we protect, can respond to a cyberattack.

New member of staff... new security risk?

When you hire someone new, do you think about how secure your business really is?

Most business owners focus on making sure their new starter has what they need. You know, a laptop, email account, access to the right systems… maybe a quick intro to the team.

But those first few months of a new employee’s journey are one of the most dangerous times for your business’s cybersecurity.

That’s the situation many businesses are heading for right now. With Windows 10.

Because time is running out. Fast.

Microsoft has confirmed that free support for Windows 10 ends on October 14 when it reaches end of life.

That’s only a few weeks away. And with the time it takes to plan, budget and roll out a full upgrade across your business, it’s dangerously close.

Warning: That antivirus website could be a fake

When you’re trying to protect your business, what could possibly go wrong by downloading antivirus software?

More than you might think.

If you’re not careful, that “antivirus” might be the threat.

Cybercriminals are getting better and better at creating fake websites that look just like the real thing. One recent example involved a convincing copy of the website of one of the most trusted names in cybersecurity.

The fake site looked nearly identical to the real one, complete with the download button in all the right places. Deliverability can be affected by a number of factors. Let’s talk about one common factor, Role-based Email Addresses.

What is a Role-based Email Address?

Role addresses are organizational email addresses associated with a certain function, responsibility, position or department and not with an individual.

They are mostly managed by more than one individual and mostly have a distribution list. That means the email sent to a role address actually will be shared with everyone on the distribution list.

Also known as role-based email addresses or role email addresses, role addresses are different from other email addresses in that they do not represent a specific individual. Addresses like support@ , info@ or hiring@ are examples of role addresses. They’re often broadcast or redistributed to a number of individuals.

Problems associated with role-addresses

You’ll face a higher bounce rate

You could be blacklisted

You fall short of compliance

Your risks are disproportionate

Here is a great, and brief, article on the risks of a role-based email address. We always recommend named users, and sparing use of a Group (collaborative inbox) for these role-based addresses. generic looking logo and a ca:wll to action to click something. These are,
almost always bogus.

These popups come from your web browser, believe it or not. What happend was a
message was displayed on your browser asking if you would like to allow
notifications, and someone clicked YES when they should have clicked NO.

How-to Show Headers in Gmail

Here is a quick video on how to view the headers in a Gmail message.

TLDR; Every person needs their own username and password. It violates HIPAA
and all basic security standards to share accounts and passwords.

A common request we get is for a shared user account. It makes sense, it can be
a hassle creating an account for a temp worker, or a student, or an intern.
From a security standpoint, particularly HIPAA, is this an acceptable practice?

Here is a great article entitled HIPAA Regulatory Alert: Sharing user names is
a HIPAA
security
that discusses this very topic. Let’s look at some highlights from this
article.
